"After moving to Ulm this summer to proceed my basketball career in a more professional environment, the „Education Academy“ by BBU’01 enabled me to gain first work experience via different internships during the basketball season. The first station was the recruitment agency people-s-place that was open to hire my teammate Zach and me as interns.

The first weeks at people-s-place were very interesting and I already learned a lot in this short amount of time. We were greeted very warmly and were introduced to the work as a recruiter and the work procedures very quickly. Of course, I had to get used to working in an office job, yet I really started to like it, especially because the working atmosphere was very pleasant and friendly.

Over time, my remit became bigger, so that not only the „sourcing“, so finding fitting candidates on platforms like LinkedIn, but also writing those „sourced“ candidates, putting new vacancies in our database, posting new jobs on job platforms or scheduling interview dates for my colleagues became my daily routine.

The work as a recruiter is really perfect as a first work experience, as you can really get a good impression of the working world. You do not only get to know the general recruitment process or the different branches of work, but also a variety of different jobs and companies you’ve never heard before, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.

Furthermore, the experience is very valuable, because you get to see profiles from many different people, which helps to sharpen the view at the CV and the multiple skills of the candidates.

During this internship I’ve been able to learn some important things, not only for my working career, but also for my basketball career. Skills such as reliability, communication or just an open mind-set will definitely also help me in the future."
